Semper Fidelis

Forgive me father for I have sinned.

but I won’t sit in a box with a human

to confess to a church that closed its doors

on me before I was even born.

I am too proud for that.

Forgive me father for I have sinned,

robbing Peter to pay Paul

l transformed the bombs to love

and protected innocent children

I done the best I could.

Forgive me father for I have sinned

I haven’t worshipped the temple

but instead choked it with smoke

until at times there was no air to breathe

I’m not perfect and I’m not meant to be.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned

My inherited guilt, crucified from birth

by a church that wanted me to live in fear

Chained me to the ground with a heavy load.

I’ve broken free now, redeem me.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned

Ignoring my truth, in favour of a story,

an idea, a vision I held of what must be

To give others something I didn’t have.

I’m here now and have improved my ways.

Forgive me father for I have sinned.

I doubted, but I didn’t close the door.

I trembled, thinking I was alone at times.

I feared, the dreams were just a tease

I’m now being carried and fly with ease.
